Bach for Young Musicians Application
This project will teach up to 6 young piano students how to play a J.S. Bach piece on the harpsichord - an essential instrument for Baroque music. It was inspired by a Dutch effort (cf. http://allofbach.com/en/bwv/bwv-772-786/ ) Applicants are encouraged to view the Dutch internet link.
The project will proceed as follows:
The project will be advertised on KMFA as well as emails sent to piano teachers.
Applicants ranging in age from 7 to 16 will submit recordings to be judged by a panel of experts. The judging will be blind - based on the recording submitted alone.
Up to 6 applicants will be chosen by the judges for further instruction in selected Bach works by recognized harpsichord pedagogues
The instruction will be given over a period of 8 weeks during the Summer of 2020
The 6 applicants will appear in a concert to be held in the Fall of 2020
The concert will be advertised and promoted. Entry will be free.
The project is intended to instill a love of Baroque music in the next generation of potential performers. It will, for most of the applicants, be the first time they encounter the harpsichord
