William Gowen, Contrabass
William Gowen started playing bass at the age of 11 and is a 4th generation musician. A graduate of Winston Churchill High School, he was a four-year All Stater, and a recipient of the prestigious Emerson Scholar Award to attend Interlochen Arts Camp. In addition, Mr. Gowen was a two-time finalist in the Interlochen Concerto Competition, received second prize in the Juanita Miller Concerto Competition, and was the featured soloist in Carnegie Hall with his high school orchestra.
Upon graduation from high school, Mr. Gowen won a position with the Austin Symphony Orchestra, and was accepted on full scholarship into the TCU Artist Diploma Program. Currently, Mr. Gowen continues as a tenured member of the Austin Symphony Orchestra and completed his Artist Diploma in May 2012. In March 2013 Mr. Gowen won First Prize in the Tuesday Musical Club, Young Artists Competition in Strings. In addition, he is a frequent substitute with the Fort Worth Orchestra.
